Spaces and commas are important.

For example: Mans laughter vs. Manslaughter (I’ll concede that there would need to be an apostrophe in there too- “man’s”- but you get the point)

Love this one!!!

And as a math teacher, I’ve gotta include a few numbers among all this grammer stuff!

Perhaps a more informative/ substantial post next time… perhaps! 🙂

Merry Christmas! December 29, 2011

Merry Christmas (a few days late!) from the beautiful state of Colorado!  Some heavy snow last week ensured that we would have a white Christmas. 🙂

My time out here has been great!!!  I guess you can’t expect less when you’re in a great place and spending time with great people (and eating great food!).  While out here, I attended a Christmas Eve service with about 20 relatives, celebrated Christmas with close to 30 relatives (who live as far as LA, Canada and Pennsylvania), celebrated my sister’s upcoming wedding with realtives, walked through Garden of the Gods, hiked through the snow and “bowled” snowballs along the way, helped finish a 1000 piece puzzle in a day, stayed up late watching and making fun of “Toddlers in Tiaras” with my cousin… and my trip isn’t even over yet! 🙂

On Christmas, we watched an awesome modern day version of the Christmas story.  Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Also, I thought this was pretty great:

Stay tuned for a more reflective post about Christmas! 🙂

The Christmas Tree December 22, 2011

The phrase that replays

It stays in your head for days-

“Jesus is the reason for the season.”

It’s thrown around like a cliché

But at the end of the day

We may implore

“What is Christmas without Christ?”

But lemme ask you something more-

What is Christ without the cross?

That’s why I’m thankful God’s the boss.

See, Christmas is just the beginning of the story

Jesus lived a perfect life and even more he

Gave up his life to bring God glory.

This was all God’s plan even before he

Sent His son down to our human territory,

Purposed to die on a tree- that’s grace- not by works, but for free.

So the wood that matters isn’t just the manger

If we forget about the cross, this is the danger:

We don’t remember why he came-

But would my life be the same,

If my Savior didn’t take the blame?

So as we celebrate this season,

Remember Jesus is the reason.

Cuz Christmas can become all about gift after gift

So we gotta be discerning- we gotta sift

Through- to find the most important one

Look past the three gifts the magi gave the Son.

God came down- the gift of Jesus’ birth.

Such humility to walk upon the earth.

Perfect life sacrificed- now that’s a gift of priceless worth!

This Tuesday was the 6th weekday in a row that I had something music related in the evening (rehearsal or performance).  Between rehearsals and 2 Christmas concerts with an orchestra I’m in and helping lead worship for a women’s event at my church, I’ve been a bit busy…

Enjoy the final piece from our concert Tuesday…

Hallelujah Chorus

And as if the truth of these lyrics isn’t enough to compel me to sing “Hallelujah,” tomorrow is Friday and next week I just get to watch my students take exams… oh, yeah, guess I’ll have to grade them too! 🙂

This may be my shortest post ever…

Introducing Haiku

It’s five, seven, five-

The syllables in each line.

This is a haiku.

I usually have plenty to say, but this time I’ll leave it to some other people.  Be enlightened by this random selection of quotes that I like. 🙂

  • “It’s easy to stumble out of church. It’s almost impossible to stumble out of community. One more reason why circles are better than rows!” – Andy Stanley
  • “As with every other aspect of life, we are called to be thoughtful, full of thought, in our relationship to technology. Not daftly dancing along to the latest drumbeat, enticing as it may be. Rather, asking ourselves whether we ‘should’, not simply whether we ‘can.’ Should I let my children play a video game now? Or should I accompany them on a hike? Should I watch a movie? Or ought I read or write or pray?” -Tom Rowley
  • “There is never going to be a day when I stand before God and He looks at me and says, ‘I wish you would have kept more for yourself.’ I’m confident that God will take care of me.” –David Platt
  • Irony: the opposite of wrinkly.
  •  “If you can find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn’t lead anywhere.” – Frank Clark
  • Everything is easier said than done, except for talking- that’s about the same.
  • “Hard work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves, some turn up their noses, and some don’t turn up at all.” -Sam Ewing

And here’s a sweet song for you to listen to…
